Risk Management Group Honored For Exceptional Project Development and Implementation
For our Risk Management group, the focus is on being able to have predictable results from decisions that we make on accounts. One of those decisions we make many times a day is whether to approve or decline an account application received over the internet. A team from our Risk Management group recently implemented a new project that automated the verification process we use in approving applications. This implementation resulted in faster decisions for our customers as well as increased consistency and less expense.

Our customers have told us that a quick decision on their application is extremely important to them. This team completed a project that favorably impacted same day application decision rates while reducing expenses. What makes this project implementation deserving of a President’s Plate Award was not only the favorable results from a customer perspective but also how it was defined and managed—with open and timely communication, a sense of urgency and development of positive partner relationships across Customer Service and Consumer Banking, Marketing, Risk, the Legal Department and Business Technology.

Discover Information Technology Receives Top Accolades for Culture and Innovation
For the fifth year in a row, Discover Financial Services (DFS) was recognized as one of the top 100 Best Places to Work in Information Technology (IT) by IDG's Computerworld. This honor was part of the weekly publication's 14th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey, which was published in the June 18, 2007 issue of Computerworld and online at Computerworld.com. In 2007, Discover ranked #45 on the 2007 list, moving up nine places over the prior year's ranking. We look forward to continuing to move up the list!

Discover Financial Services (DFS) was also recognized in 2007 by CIO Magazine as one of the top 100 organizations that exemplify operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT). The CIO 100 award is presented annually by the magazine to recognize outstanding innovation and measurable business impact. Discover was recognized for this award in 2006 as well.

InformationWeek also recognized DFS as one of the 500 most innovative users of information technology in 2007. Discover was ranked #174 overall, ahead of Citigroup Inc., Capital One Financial Corp., and American Express. For nearly 20 years, InformationWeek has identified and honored the nation’s most innovative users of information technology with its annual listing. In 2007 Discover was recognized for two projects: the Small Business Card and Web Targeting (customized internet offers and information targeted to the needs of each individual customer). Discover was also recognized for this award in 2006.

Call Center Makes Talent Development a Priority to Win 'Best Center" Title.
Last month the Customer Service and Consumer Banking division gathered for the annual President's Plate Awards Ceremony, honoring the highest individual and group achievements of the year. Each year the Call Centers battle for the award of "Best Center," a title earned this year by the call center in Lake Park, Utah.

The Lake Park center not only drove efficiency and steady business results, but also represented the values of the company as a whole through its focus on the customer, its development of its employees and its continuation of our corporate tradition of volunteerism.

Making talent development a top priority, the management team adopted the motto of “creating an environment our employees want to come to everyday, even on their day off.” Whether through participation in fundraisers for local and national charities, individual coaching and guidance to develop employee talent, or periodic spirit boosting events like tailgate lunches or Discover Brand Mondays, the Lake Park call center has proven itself to be a rewarding work experience.

The Lake Park General Manager happily accepted the award on behalf of the center.

Marketing Leadership Program Graduate Recognized for Open Road Card Management
The Marketing department recently held its annual President's Plate Awards ceremony to recognize select individuals and teams with the company's most prestigious award. The winners all displayed excellence in exemplifying the Discover Values and Leadership Behaviors by driving the overall success of the company by adding value, positively influencing financial results and/or promoting cost effectiveness.

One of our winners was a Marketing Leadership Program graduate recognized for her management of the Open Road Card, the company's second-largest credit card product.

On any given day, management of this product can include creative, financial, or strategic decisions. Our winning associate always strives to develop a unique customer experience for Open Road and identify key efficiency opportunities for the brand. She has demonstrated strong Leadership Excellence with cross-functional teams and is personally committed to assisting her peers in pursuing best practices. She has built her reputation as the subject matter expert for Open Road and she continuously demonstrates her commitment to the Discover Values.
